Revision as of 02:15, 30 August 2018

The Hylian Scout Tunic variants offer levels of protection between Leather and Scaled Armor, but weigh more than Glass Armor.

All Hylian Scout Tunic variants are Light Armor and cannot be altered to Heavy Armor at an Alteration Table. The suits of Hylian Soldier Armor serve as Heavy Armor alternatives to the tunics. The suits of Hylian Glass Armor serve as stronger versions of the tunics, both in terms of armor rating and enchantments.

Some variants can be dyed to another color at a Tanning Rack, though the change is purely aesthetic.

Scout Tunic variants can be made into Ashland Scout Tunics using a Terminan Forge. The change is also purely aesthetic. Guaranteed Ashland Tunics are also found in various locations, accompanied by their respective Enchanted Circlets.

Wearing the appropriate Enchanted Ring with certain gear will grant additional effects and bonuses.

Basic Hylian Scout Tunics can be made into any variant except Zora Tunics at the Terminan Forge using certain materials. These methods are listed with each variant.

Goron Tunic

The Goron Tunic offers as much protection as Elven Armor.

It is a deep red tunic that offers protection against fire magic, by increasing Fire Resistance by 100%, but hinders stamina recovery by making Stamina regeneration 60% slower.

Equipping the Ring of Goron will increase Fire Resistance by 30% and make fire-based magic 30% stronger when wearing Goron gear.

The Goron Tunic can be dyed to a darker shade of red at a Tanning Rack using four Red Mountain Flowers.

Location

Two guaranteed Goron Tunics can be found. One is located in the Eastmarch Secret Grotto being guarded by a Lesser Poe, and the second is found at Sky Haven Temple in the leftmost room from main hall with Alduin's Wall. This one is quest locked and requires the player to play through the majority of the main quest to access the temple.

Both Goron Tunics are found inside a Hero's Chest in both locations, containing the tunic and a Goron Cap.

Guaranteed Ashland Goron Tunics can be found in Bloodskal Barrow and Itnamzand.

Lore

The Hylian Scout Tunics were worn by members of the Hylian Army during the Last Great War of Hyrule. Soldiers skilled in archery and stealth tended to wear the tunics. The tunics were enchanted to allow scouts and soldiers protection against the magic of the Dark Army.

Background and Inspiration

Most of the tunics were included in a standalone mod before being integrated into Relics of Hyrule. The Eldin, Faron, and Oocca Tunics were added several years after the original set, in version 6.4. These three tunics were originally included to allow for a patch for Elemental Destruction Magic. For the unpatched mod, the tunics were given unused colors (orange, cyan, and gray) and names that completed a trifecta (Lanayru, Eldin, Faron) and acknowledged other tribes of Hyrule (Oocca).

The tunics originally did not have drawbacks and simply offered their basic enchantments. This made the Ikana Tunic unbalanced. Weaknesses were implemented in 6.0 and have been refined in later updates. JKalenad refined the drawback to the Ikana Tunic in 6.5.

The Oocca Tunic was originally planned to be implemented in a very early version of the mod as the Gray Tunic, an unenchanted tunic worn by Hylian Ghosts. It was ultimately abandoned until version 6.4. Unenchanted blue and red tunics were also implemented in version 3.0, but were unreliable and were removed. JKalenad revisited the generic, unenchanted tunics in version 6.5 with the Hylian Scout Tunic.

In version 6.5.19, JKalenad plans to add a guaranteed basic Hylian Scout Tunic as well as a recipe to transform a basic tunic into a Zora Tunic.

JKalenad does not consider the tunics to be his best work, but still thinks very highly of them. They were based on an unused model (i.e. guard armor with sleeves), and they were the first pieces of body armor he ever made. The only change JKalenad would ever make to the tunics would be to even out the shape of the mesh worn by male characters, as it gives a barrel-chested appearance he does not consider suitable.
