The Golden Sword is a type of one-handed sword.

Characteristics[]

The Golden Sword is slightly higher in strength than a Dragonbone Sword and equal in strenth to the True Master Sword. It weighs slightly less than a Dragonbone Sword, but slightly more than the True Master Sword. The Golden Sword has a standard reach and swing speed for a sword.

The Sword deals greatly increased critical damage (x2.0 base damage) and has the standard critical multiplier of x1.0. It may be tempered with a Gold Ingot.

Effects[]

The Golden Sword is unenchanted and cannot be enchanted.

It reacts with the White Ring and Ivory Ring, releasing sword beams while the wielder is at full health.

Crafting[]

The Golden Sword can be crafted from a Tempered Sword at a Terminan Forge or Ancient Enchanter.

Lore[]

A single Golden Sword was present at the Battle of a Thousand Heroes. The method for forging Golden Swords was passed from blacksmiths of Lorule into Hyrule prior to the Battle. More Golden Swords were planned to be forged, but only one was made. It was lost after the events of the Last Great War of Hyrule.

Background and Inspiration[]

The Golden Sword was added in version 5.0 of Relics of Hyrule alongside the Noble Sword and Tempered Sword. The original model's hilt was a retextured Dragonbone Sword hilt, and its blade was recolored from the Noble Sword. In version 6.6.1.B, the Golden Sword was given a unique model by Dralkkin. Its appearance was inspired by artwork from A Link to the Past while being more similar to the Noble Swords' design.

It was included to pay homage to A Link to the Past and to give the Noble Sword a third branch in its upgrade tree. The Golden Sword is unenchanted to appeal to players who may not be interested in using magic or enchantments, and it is essentially an unenchanted Master Sword.

The recipe for crafting the sword references methods in both A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds. The vial of Great Fairy's Tears references A Link to the Past, which required the player to throw the Tempered Sword into a fairy fountain. The two Moon Shards represent Master Ore in reference to A Link Between Worlds. Gold Dust is included to give the ingredient a wider use in the mod, and to give an explanation for the gold color of the blade.

The Golden Sword was originally not intended for Relics of Hyrule, as a reforging path for the Master Sword had been fully established. The addition of the Noble Sword allowed JKalenad more freedom with drawing inspiration from sources that involve reforging the Master Sword.

An optional alternate version of the Golden Sword may be included in the future, similar to the True Four Sword, but its inclusion is not a priority. Instead, the blade may also be replaced with a straighter edge, much like the Tempered Sword.
