The Goddess Shield is a shield, and the final upgraded form of the Sacred Shield and Divine Shield.

It offers as much protection as a Dragonscale Shield, while weighing as much as both a Glass and Dragonscale Shield.

It offers better protection against fire and shock damage, as well as reflecting damage back at enemies. This is especially effective against undead.

It can be tempered with a Common Soul Gem.

It is by default classed as light armor, and cannot be altered at an Alteration Table.

Background and Inspiration Edit

The Goddess, Sacred and Divine Shields were added in Relics of Hyrule version 3.4.

The shield's design is heavily based on the Goddess Shield in Skyward Sword, though a bit more grittier and aged.

The recipe to craft the Goddess Shield is based on the recipe for upgrading it from the Divine Shield in Skyward Sword, using ingredients from Skyrim as a replacement for the original ones. Hagraven Feathers stand in for the Blue Bird Feather, Hawk Feathers for the Bird Feathers, the Small Antlers for the Monster Horns, and the Black Soul Gems for the Dusk Relics.

In version 6.4, the Goddess Shield, Divine Shield, and Sacred Shield were redesigned with darker, higher-contrast textures to better fit their age and other items in Skyrim. The redesign also serves to reflect the state of Hyrule's spirit.

The face of the Goddess Shield comes from the statues of Mara. This frowning, weeping face contrasts with that of the design of the shield in Skyward Sword, which features a smiling face. The face of Mara was chosen to provide unsettling realism to the Goddess Shield and to symbolize the distress of the Hylian Goddesses at Hyrule's fate.
